Context

Project Brief

The mission of this project was to create a mobile app for a company that was previously launched on a desktop only website. The goals of this mission were to enable a user to see all of my subscriptions in one place so that they can get a comprehensive view of my spending on subscriptions, to allow users to unsubscribe from a subscription so that they can reduce needless spending, and allow users to be notified if any of their subscriptions are about to be auto-renewed so that I can make a decision about if they want to renew the subscription and continue spending money. My target audience are users that use their phone and desktop equally, over 30 years of age, middle class, and users that want to be more budget conscious.

‍

Design Process

‍

To attack this challenge I wanted to give the user more creativity when making the move from website to a mobile app. I wanted to expand on the capabilities the user can have. I did this by making sure that first users can see all their subscriptions in one place so they could get a more comprehensive view of their spending. Second, I wanted to make it easy for users to unsubscribe from an subscription so the user can easily reduce their spending. My last point of attack was to make sure that users could be notified if subscriptions were on the verge of being auto renewed so that the user can make that decision beforehand.

‍

Result

‍

After conducting the user tests, I collected a 80% completion or success rate. However all the 5 users thought the app was well put together when it came to the layout and style of the application. The users also thought the app was easily readable and displayed a clear next step. Two out of the five users stumbled upon step 8 when I asked users to enable notifications for BudgetPro to receive alerts about upcoming payments and renewal dates. One user was able to figure it out eventually but the other user needed my assistance to proceed to the next task.

‍

‍

The purpose of creating this mobile app was to reach a broader audience and allow user to now control their subscriptions from their phone. I wanted to design an app that appealed to both men and women with a minimal design making it easy and readable for users to enjoy.

Takeaways

After completing this project, I believe I got better and gained more knowledge when it came to designing high fidelity screens. I feel as if this project lunged in a forward direction in terms of my quality in production and efficiency. While this application was not meant to replace the desktop web based version, the goal was to allow users to use both, in my opinion users can use the desktop version at home and the mobile when users are on the go.
